Child day care services
Information to new families about early childhood education and day care
From 1 September 2017, Lappeenranta city provides centralized advice, information and guidance to parents to enable them to find for example suitable daycare place to their children. Service also helps parents to define what kind of early childhood service child and family needs.
Parents can now find all help and information in one place via phone or email.
Parents with children under school age have a right, based on law, to choose child care from the following alternatives:
- Children are attended at home. Allowance is paid for a child under 3 years of age.
- Child is placed in communal day care.
- Child is placed in private day care (private day care or nanny).
The objective is to offer families an option to choose a suitable day care service close to the child’s home. The basis for early education is to appreciate childhood, and to observe a child’s individuality and development needs in each stage.
Day care is available year round. An application for communal day care should be filled out four months prior to the expected need. However, if day care is necessary due to employment, education or professional training, but the actual time cannot be anticipated, an application should be filled out as soon as possible, but no later than two weeks prior to the need.
Application forms for communal day care are available in all day care centres, family care providers, office of City Education Unit, or by printing the form from these pages. The application needs to be sent to the desired day care centre or the family day care provider. The Applicant will receive a written decision with information on fees. The Application can be cancelled by informing the desired day care centre on application.
